Business of Cannabis Op-Ed
Is the US Hemp Ban Punishing the Wrong People?
Writing for Business of Cannabis, Scott Mazza, co-founder of Vitality CBD, argues that the federal spending bill provision capping finished hemp products at 0.4mg total THC per container misidentifies the problem: targeting compliant producers with USDA organic certification and years of third-party testing behind them rather than the bad actors mislabeling potency or skipping independent testing entirely. Mazza draws on Vitality CBD’s full-spectrum formulations to make the case that the proposed threshold would also eliminate products with a genuine research basis: work published since the 2018 Farm Bill points to the entourage effect in full-spectrum extraction producing outcomes that CBD isolate does not reproduce, which makes the isolate carve-out lawmakers treat as a concession a step backward rather than a compromise. He proposes a three-part alternative: FDA oversight through the HEMP Act to remove dangerous products, a federal quality seal rewarding organic certification and transparent testing, and dosage-based rules that distinguish wellness applications from high-dose intoxicants, arguing that a sound regulatory framework for hemp must be built around the producers who have already proven they can meet the highest standards, as published in Business of Cannabis.

New York Cannabis Retailers Left in Limbo: What Should Happen Next?
In this policy-focused opinion piece, Scott Mazza of Vitality CBD examines how court-ordered injunctions and regulatory uncertainty have stalled New York’s adult-use cannabis retail rollout, leaving qualified applicants in limbo. Drawing on firsthand experience pursuing a retail license in an affected region, Mazza outlines the consequences of delayed guidance, uneven enforcement against gray-market operators, and mounting legal costs. The article argues that clearer timelines, transparency around standard licensing, and stronger action against illicit sales are essential to restoring fairness and stability in New York’s legal cannabis market.
