When you’ve made the decision to purchase CBD oil, one of the first things to decide on is the type of product. Full-spectrum, THC-free, and broad-spectrum are the most common options you’ll find available. Which one is right for you? With so much misinformation and gaps in details out there, it’s important to take a closer look at the CBD spectra of the various products to determine which is best for you.
Full-Spectrum CBD Oil
When comparing products, full-spectrum CBD oil is the best product for most needs. It contains flavonoids, terpenes, phytocannabinoids, and other nutrients that help make it a highly desirable product. The term “full-spectrum” refers to the inclusion of the whole plant. By including the whole plant in the product, there’s more of a nutrient-based present.
One of the key other benefits is that full-spectrum CBD oil allows the nutrients to work together, including the cannabinoids. This helps to create a better impact than what can be expected with others. We call this the entourage effect – something that’s quite impressive. All of the components of the plant work together to create the effect desired.
The entourage effect, as it has become known, is a very important premise. It was first developed by the industry when they wanted to show that all components of the cannabis plant could do a better job together than any single component used on its own. This creates a stronger effect overall. While it is often used as a component of marketing, it is still one of the best ways to describe the difference in these products.
Broad-Spectrum CBD Oil
Another commonly found product is broad-spectrum CBD oil. It is the same as full-spectrum, but it does not have the THC in it. It contains many (but not all) of the other cannabinoids and phytochemicals naturally occurring in hemp plants. It can create the entourage effect, granted a weaker one. The primary difference is simply the lack of the THC component.
One of the best reasons to use this product is when you are taking a drug test on a regular basis and do not want the product to show up in your samples. THC is not present, which means it will not show up on the drug test like it would if you were using full-spectrum CBD oil. The catch is that not all broad-spectrum products are the same. Some may have traces of THC in them.
THC-Free CBD Oil
The third option is a THC-free CBD oil. This product contains a single cannabinoid, such as cannabidiol. It is extracted from the plant itself and then isolated from other components. It is the purest form of that extract. This option is free from all other components – including terpenes and cannabinoids.
This option is a good one for those who are very concerned about testing positive for THC. If you plan to consume a large amount of CBD for some reason, you want to use this version instead. However, without the other cannabinoids, there can be no compounding entourage effect.
How to Choose the Right CBD Oil for Your Needs
If you are looking for salves or oils – in any of the forms – the primary question you need to ask is whether or not you want THC in the product. There are numerous THC-free CBD salves and broad-spectrum CBD salves and oils on the market. However, without THC comes a different type of product.
THC has a synergistic relationship with all of the other components of the product. Many people want THC to be included, and as long as you are not going to ingest a great deal of it or you are not going to have a drug test, then buying full-spectrum CBD salves and oils may be the best route for you.
Some people believe that products like salves are safe to use even though they have THC in them. Full-spectrum CBD salves will still contain THC. And even though you are applying them to the skin itself and not ingesting them in the same way as you would an oil, that can still create a positive drug test (though highly unlikely). That is because these topical are applied to the surface of the skin and accumulate over time. They then build up in the fat cells in the body, which allows them to show up on your drug tests should you take them.
If you are looking for a product without THC – for any reason – then you may want to check out broad-spectrum CBD salves and oils. These are of higher quality than the THC-free CBD salves that are commonly available.
