Can You Mix Delta-8 with Alcohol?

Vitality CBDDelta-8 Information

Many hemp-derived products are now considered legal on a federal level thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill. This has caught the interest of many new consumers, sparking the growth of the THC market. Though there are many different types of products, Delta-8 THC has undeniably become a favorite for many THC consumers.

Consuming Delta-8 has become popular because of its effects, which include a “high” sensation, feelings of euphoria, and relaxation. Though different, one could understand how a person may consume alcohol for the same or similar reasons. After all, it’s not uncommon to relax after a long day with a glass of whisky or get “happy” after sharing a beer with friends.

Although these are completely different substances, both in presentation and how they’re consumed, it’s understandable why someone would want to consume them together. Though research on Delta-8 and alcohol is limited, our understanding of Delta-8, combined with previous research on Delta-9 (the commonly known form of THC), can help us speculate on whether or not it’s a good idea and the potential consequences.

Is It Safe to Mix Delta-8 and Alcohol?

As mentioned, there’s not enough research on Delta-8 and alcohol to make a concrete statement, but past research on THC and alcohol leads us to believe that combining these two substances does come with a risk. We should note, though, that there are certain factors that can affect a person’s experience; we’ll discuss this more below. For now, let’s take a look at the possible risks.

Increased levels of THC in the blood

A 2015 study from the American Association for Clinical Chemistry found that “the simultaneous use of alcohol and cannabis produces significantly higher blood concentrations of cannabis’s main psychoactive constituent, THC, as well as THC’s primary active metabolite than cannabis use alone.” In other words, a person will feel the effects of THC much more strongly when combined with alcohol.

Though some people desire this effect, even long-time THC consumers may be surprised by the effects that they experience.

Delta-8 may increase the effects of alcohol

Simultaneously, Delta-8 could amplify the effects of alcohol. Regular side effects of alcohol include loss of coordination, trouble concentrating, intoxication, and lowered inhibitions. Though THC is consumed because of its many benefits, the same THC can cause negative effects when combined with excessive drinking. As mentioned in the last point, the problem arises when the consumer is not aware that the effects of these substances can be amplified when used together. Remember that excessive consumption of alcohol is never recommended, let alone combined with another substance.

It may increase the risk of alcohol poisoning

One of the amazing effects of THC is its ability to reduce nausea and vomiting. So, this should be great when combined with the potentially nauseating effects of alcohol, right? Well, not exactly. When a person vomits after consuming too much alcohol, it’s the body’s way of purging. If a person consumes too much alcohol, they may need to vomit in order to get rid of some of the toxic substance. If the THC prevents the body from rejecting the alcohol, then it puts the person at greater risk of alcohol poisoning.

If a person is using Delta-8 to recover from an alcohol-induced hangover at a later time, then maybe the soothing effects can come in handy. However, that’s a topic we would need to explore and research at a later date in our blog.
