THC's technical name is Delta 9 Tetahydrocannabinoal. Besides offering a "stoned" feeling, THC demonstrates its ability to offer relief from things like nausea, pain, sleep disorders, and other issues people face. Cannabis extractors and labs have been experimenting with varying forms of THC and slight variations in their chemical composition in recent years.
The well-loved Delta 9 THC has a sister compound, that carries its own unique benefits and properties.
Only a slight shift in one chemical bond makes Delta 8 differ from Delta 9, but it has an entirely different profile that has had the medical marijuana industry intrigued in the past few years.
Delta 8 occurs less abundantly in cannabis plants compared to Delta 9, but labs and extractors have utilized selective breeding and molecular isolation to extract the concentrates that are abundant in Delta 8.
Research
Years ago, chemists started experimenting with Delta 8 and discovered promising results. The US National Cancer Institute reported a "lower psychotropic potency" than Delta 9 THC. This means that Delta 8 is less associated with a "stoned" feeling.
They also suggest that Delta 8 could affect a different set of cannabinoid receptors - which is the brain's natural mechanism for receiving benefits from cannabis compounds. Patients report that Delta 8 provides a general sense of well-being.
What Should You Expect
Research has been limited so far due to ongoing US restrictions against cannabis studies. People are still reporting their own positive experiences. Delta 8 THC consumers report feeling relaxed, clear-headed and energized.
Some research also suggest that Delta 8 could help patient produce a neurotransmitter called Acetylcholine.
Acetylcholine is responsible for memory, cognition, neuroplasticity and arousal.
