CBD Strength and Potency Level Differences
There are many reasons you might be shopping for CBD oil. Generally, people use it to experience a wide range of potential benefits. But what are the differences in CBD oil strengths? Dosing recommendations primarily rely on weight and product potency.
CBD oil is now being studied in depth to see how it fits within the medical world. In most cases, doctors cannot prescribe cannabinoids because of issues with dosing standards and research. You will notice we do not mention a "recommended daily allowance." Only a government entity can legally approve of that specific terminology. However, we can talk about recommendations from our experts on CBD dosage.
The Difference in Potency of Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum and Isolate
Different extraction processes result in different CBD products. Three main types of CBD oil exist based on the cannabinoids make-up of the finished product.
- Full Spectrum CBD: These products contain all-natural parts of the hemp plant oil. Full-spectrum oil contains trace amounts of THC (<0.3%), as well as the CBD and Terpenes (flavoring cannabinoids).
- Broad Spectrum CBD: This product will contain the Terpenes and CBD, but no THC.
- CBD Isolate: These products use isolated Cannabidiol only, without THC, and generally without naturally occurring terpenes.
Vitality CBD no longer sells any products with CBD isolate. All of our products are full-spectrum CBD oil extract using coconut oil as an MCT carrier. We won't discredit the effectiveness of CBD isolate, but we believe that Full Spectrum CBD is more effective.
CBD needs other cannabinoids to create a reaction with the body called the "entourage effect." With CBD isolate, they strip away those different components of the plant oil to focus solely on the Cannabidiol. It's generally believed that CBD, combined with all other cannabinoids, interact with the body to create more potent effects.
What are the Differences in CBD Oil Strength?
But it is important to note that not all CBD oils are the same potency. So, while your weight and size will impact how the strength affects you, the CBD MG levels will also matter. With our oils you will see:

Explaining CBD MG Levels
The large number you see on the front is how much CBD oil is in the entire bottle. Each bottle contains 30 drops, but each drop for each type of oil is a different potency. If you want to take 4-8MG for a very low dose as a 90lb person, you could take 4-7 drops from the Organic CBD Oil 1000MG bottle or 3-5 drops from the Organic CBD Oil 1400MG. Because the second bottle is more potent, you will not need to take as many drops.
There may be points where you only want a small dose or want to test the product. You can start at a low dose to see how you feel with the outcome because responses vary. To see more information on dosing (including dosing for pets), you can read our dosing recommendations here.
CBD Potency by Body Weight
Your body weight changes how much you will need to make an impact without going overboard. You can always start on a very low dose and move up if you don't feel the effects within a few uses. Your CBD dosing recommendations will change with your desired physical impact and body weight.
You should always consult your doctor before taking any CBD products. We are not licensed medical physicians and are not allowed to make medical recommendations. You will need to talk to a doctor, especially if you are trying to treat a specific condition, if you are already on other medications or if you have allergies. There is a possibility that CBD oils will conflict with certain medications or could cause an allergic reaction.
Do Different Potency Levels Result in a "High"?
We've already mentioned that CBD oil won't get you "high." The CBD levels counteract the high feeling that can happen when taking high levels of THC. With Full Spectrum CBD oil, the THC levels are incredibly low to pass legal requirements.
Currently, federal law prohibits the growth and sale of Cannabis sativa—or the plants used for marijuana. Because of the 2018 Farm Bill, it is legal to grow hemp—or industrial hemp—which cannot contain levels of THC over 0.3%. This small amount of THC makes it extremely difficult to experience psychoactive effects.
Pure CBD (and this is important) will not show up on drug tests. Full-spectrum CBD will show up on a drug test. Despite being legal, there is a small chance you will fail a drug test using our orally ingestible products.
CBD oil is entirely legal when correctly processed from industrial hemp. That said, it is always best to get your employer's perspective before you assume CBD oil will not cause you to lose your employment. Even when taking products made using CBD isolate.
